We offer voluntary service opportunities in medical and nursing, in educational fields, and in many other areas. From emergency medical services to youth residential groups, here, everyone can find the right opportunity.

 

  • Elderly Care and Nursing

    Your placement in this field is full of diversity and varies from one placement site to another. You can work in the inpatient or outpatient setting, or in day care.

    Typical tasks can include:

    • Basic care tasks
    • Household chores
    • Social care and entertainment activities
    • Maintaining contact with the residents
  • Civil Protection

    In this area, there are a lot of possible working areas. What you do also depends on your own interests.

    Typical tasks can include:

    • Assisting in first aid training
    • Accompanying and supporting volunteer forces
    • Maintaining and managing materials and vehicles for disaster relief
    • Addressing medical and first aid issues at events
  • Preschool

    In daycare centers, you work directly with children and accompany them in their learning and play. You can work with very young children or preschoolers.

    Typical tasks can include:

    • Assisting in planning and implementing group activities
    • Supporting individual development in play and learning
    • Household chores
    • Participating in parent meetings and team discussions
  • Hospitals

    In hospitals, there are several departments, and your tasks can vary depending on where you are placed. For instance, you may work in a rehabilitation clinic or a district hospital.

    Typical tasks can include:

    • Basic care tasks
    • Household chores
    • Assistance in patient management
  • Emergency Medical Services

    In emergency medical services (EMS), you have a strong medical focus, but you also work directly with people. This means that empathy and spontaneity are particularly important. Requirements for working in EMS include being of legal age, holding a Class B driver's license, and completing and passing a three-month training program to become an emergency medical technician.

    Typical tasks can include:

    • Patient transportation
    • Possibly (depending on the region and duration of your service) responding to emergency calls
    • Documenting incidents
    • Disinfecting the vehicles used
    • Maintaining equipment and replenishing supplies
  • School

    Working in schools is characterized by variety and constantly changing situations. You can work in elementary, special needs, secondary, comprehensive schools, or high schools.

    Typical tasks can include:

    • Supporting individual students in their daily school routines and special learning support programs
    • Supervising homework sessions
    • Assisting teachers in the classroom
    • Household chores
    • Assisting with administrative tasks in the school office
    • Participating in extracurricular activities in the afternoon
  • Social Work (Youth Care, Family Care, Youth Work)

    If you are interested in social work in general, here you have the opportunity to work with families, children and adolescents outside of a school setting. Possible placement sites include youth centers, meeting places, the Red Cross La Casitas and residential groups for children and adolescents.

    Typical tasks can include:

    • Supporting children and adolescents living in residential groups
    • Supporting families in residential groups
    • Organizing extracurricular leisure activities
    • Household chores
    • Open children and youth work
  • Social Services

    In social service, there are diverse job opportunities where teamwork and empathy are crucial for providing good care or service to clients. You will need a Class B driver's license for this role.

    Typical tasks can include:

    • Distributing hot meals or frozen dishes
    • Providing transportation for individuals with disabilities and/or older adults
    • Handling home emergency calls at the DRK
    • Administrative tasks (documentation, copying, ...)
    • Assisting with the installation of home emergency call devices

For example, working with people in special situations, FSJ-digital and ecological work (for example in Mainz), working with people with disabilities, working with people with refugee backgrounds, firefighting and more. The DRK Voluntary Services in Rhineland-Palatinate are supported by a team of over 25 educational and administrative professionals. Each group has individual points of contact, providing expert answers to organizational questions, as well as general contact persons for all types of inquiries. The German Red Cross

The German Red Cross (DRK) saves lives, assists in emergencies, provides community support, helps the poor and needy, and upholds international humanitarian law - in Germany and around the world. In Rhineland-Palatinate, the DRK is active in many different areas, from emergency medical services and search and rescue dog teams to migration counseling and clothing banks. We adhere to the principles of the International Committee of the Red Cross, which was founded over 150 years ago.
