  • Elderly Care and Support

    Your service in this field is full of variety and differs from one placement to another. You can work in residential care, outpatient care, or day care centers.

    Typical tasks may include:

    • Basic care duties
    • Household tasks
    • Social support and recreational activities
    • Maintaining contact with the residents
  • Civil Protection

    In the field of civil protection, your interests play a key role - many things are possible.

    Typical tasks may include:

    • Supporting first aid training
    • Assisting and accompanying volunteer staff
    • Maintenance and logistics of disaster relief equipment and vehicles
    • Providing first aid and medical support at events
  • Daycare Centers

    In daycare centers, you work directly with children and support them in learning and playing. You can work with very young children or with preschoolers.

    Typical tasks may include:

    • Assisting in the planning and implementation of group activities
    • Supporting individual development in the areas of play and learning
    • Household-related tasks
    • Participating in parent meetings and team discussions
  • Hospitals

    Hospitals have various wards, and your tasks will vary depending on where you are assigned. For example, you could work in a rehabilitation clinic or a regional hospital.

    Typical tasks may include:

    • Basic patient care tasks
    • Household-related tasks
    • Supporting patient management
  • Emergency Medical Services

    In emergency medical services, the focus is strongly on medical work, but you also work directly with people. This means that empathy and spontaneity are especially important. To be eligible for work in this field, you must be of legal age, hold a Class B driver’s license, and complete and pass the three-month training course to become a paramedic.

    Typical tasks may include, for example:

    • Patient transport
    • Emergency response missions (depending on the region and length of your service)
    • Documentation of missions
    • Disinfection of vehicles used
    • Maintenance of equipment and restocking of supplies
  • Schools

    Working in a school is characterized by variety and constantly changing situations. You can work in primary schools, special education schools, secondary schools, comprehensive schools, or grammar schools.

    Typical tasks may include:

    • Supporting individual students in their daily school life and in special learning support programs
    • Supervising homework sessions
    • Assisting teachers during lessons
    • Household-related tasks
    • Supporting administrative tasks in the school office
    • Helping with extracurricular activities in the afternoon
  • Social Work (Youth and Family Support, Open Youth Work)

    If you’re interested in social work in general, this is your chance to work with families, children, and young people outside of a school setting. Possible placements include youth centers or clubs, residential groups for children and teenagers, or the DRK "La Casita" program.

    Typical tasks may include, for example:

    • Supporting children and teenagers living in residential groups
    • Supporting families through the La Casita program
    • Organizing extracurricular leisure activities
    • Household-related tasks
    • Open child and youth work
  • Social Services (Home Emergency Call Services, Menu Services, ...)

    In social services, there are a wide variety of possible assignments where teamwork and empathy are important to provide good care and support to clients. A Class B driver’s license is required for this role.

    Typical tasks may include:

    • Delivering hot meals or frozen dishes
    • Providing transport services for people with disabilities and/or elderly individuals
    • Responding to emergency call systems at the Red Cross (DRK)
    • Administrative tasks (documentation, copying, etc.)
    • Assisting with the setup of emergency call devices in private homes

Each group has individual points of contact, providing expert answers to organizational questions, as well as general contact persons for all types of inquiries. The German Red Cross

The German Red Cross (DRK) saves lives, assists in emergencies, provides community support, helps the poor and needy, and upholds international humanitarian law - in Germany and around the world. In Rhineland-Palatinate, the DRK is active in many different areas, from emergency medical services and search and rescue dog teams to migration counseling and clothing banks. We adhere to the principles of the International Committee of the Red Cross, which was founded over 150 years ago.
